Quantity is its own quality.

The more painted models you put together, the better they look as a collective.

Even with simple techniques, a fully painted army looks infinitely better on the table than a collection of half painted squads.

Below is a picture of a lone Skaven Clanrat, which has been painted using drybrushing and contrast paints, both basic techniques.

The next photo is a squad of 20 Clanrats painted to the same standard. You can see how impressive a large squad looks when fully painted, imagine how much difference this makes across an army.

Even basic colour schemes using washes and drybrushing look amazing across an army.

Your army doesn’t need to be perfect, it just needs to be finished. The visual impact of a fully painted force will always look better than a collection of half-completed models with more highlights.

Glossary

Drybrushing - a miniature painting technique where most of the paint is removed from the brush so it deposits paint on the raised surfaces of a model.
